The Miner's Lass, a YouTube sensation (sort of)

Image
Now I know what I'm doing (sort of) with YouTube, there's no stopping me now.  I've made another short video to tell you all about my books, especially as my new book, The Miner's Lass  is out in hardback, ebook and audiobook on May 13th.  The paperback is out in October. You can watch me making a total idiot of myself on YouTube right here. Well, not a total idiot, I hope. I'm enthusiastic and passionate about my books, that's for sure. And I love sharing details of them with fans.  You can read about my 5 favourite locations in the book. You can watch it all below. __ Glenda Young Author of Sagas & Cosy Crime novels, published by Headline Twitter: @Flaming_Nora Facebook: GlendaYoungAuthor

Writing historic fiction set in old Ryhope - an online talk by Glenda Young

Image
As I haven't been able to get out and about over the last year to give talks on my books, I've created an online talk instead. It's packed full of fantastic pictures of old Ryhope, the village where my sagas are set, in 1919.  It's also the village where I was born and bred and it's  a joy and a privilege to bring the village to life and explain how it inspires each of my books. The talk is narrated by me and lasts for 20 minutes. You can watch it below or on YouTube . __ Glenda Young Author of Sagas & Cosy Crime novels, published by Headline Twitter: @Flaming_Nora Facebook: GlendaYoungAuthor

Wonderful women

Image
This week I kicked off a video project called Wednesday Women.  Each Wednesday, I'm releasing a very short YouTube video all about each of the women I write about in my novels set in the coalmining village of Ryhope where I was born and bred.  The first Wednesday Woman is my heroine Jess from my latest novel The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon and if you'd like to watch it, you can do so below. __ Glenda Young Author of historical novels with Headline Twitter: @Flaming_Nora Facebook: GlendaYoungAuthor

Watch my YouTube talk for Sunderland Libraries #booktube

Image
I've made another YouTube author talk, this time for Sunderland LIbraries who invited me to record an author talk to share on social media. With apologies for the slight haziness of the recording, it appears the camera on our laptop isn't all it should be. I was due to give some author talks at various libraries around the north east this spring and summer. However, as they've all been cancelled, it's a real honour (if slightly scary) to be doing the talks online instead. Here's my talk today for Sunderland Libraries. I've subtitled it too and it's 14 minutes long. __ Glenda Young Author of historical novels with Headline Twitter: @Flaming_Nora Facebook: GlendaYoungAuthor

Celebrating a special day with my first ever YouTube

Image
Today is a special day. It's publication day for The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon, my fourth novel. It's out now in ebook and audiobook and the paperback will be out in October 2020. To celebrate, I put a pit a bit of lippy on and brushed my hair for the first time in weeks, set a camera up in the living room and plucked up the courage to record my first ever YouTube video. It's a very short, just three and a half minutes, of me talking about my books and my writing life right now. If you'd like to see it, it's here. __ Glenda Young Author of historical novels with Headline Twitter: @Flaming_Nora Facebook: GlendaYoungAuthor

The Joy of YouTube

Image
One of the absolute joys of YouTube is finding songs and videos that bring back memories from (too) many years ago. The other day I was boogying about in my chair to the theme tune from the Double Deckers Saturday morning telly show and today I had a lump in my throat listening to this . It’s Morrissey and Siouxsie singing Interlude. It wasn’t a commercial success because of the falling out of the two mega-ego-icons (allegedly) who refused to promote it. It’s classic though but, and the way Siouxsie’s voice soars at the end sends shivers down my spine. Don’t watch the video though, which has nothing to do with the song, just listen to it and tell me it’s not fab. Go on, I double-decker dare you.
