Music Against Child Poverty - Book Launch with profits going to Love, Amelia

Image
I'm honoured to say that I've been invited to launch my new cosy crime, Music to Die For at the Seaview Hotel, in paperback on Sunday December 6th at the Fire Station in Sunderland.  It's my favourite venue. Better still, the book launch is part of Sunderland Music City's Music Against Child Poverty gig. There's a stellar line-up of local bands involved and all profits go to the charity Love, Amelia .   And 100% of profits from my books sold on the night will go to Love, Amelia too. Buy your gig ticket and while you do, buy a book too, or buy one on the night and support a great event and a wonderful charity. Buy tickets here. __ Glenda Young BlueSky: @Glenda Young Facebook: GlendaYoungAuthor Website: GlendaYoungBooks.com

Book launch, cake and anxiety

Image
The excitement builds as it's now just over a week away to paperback publication of my third novel Pearl of Pit Lane . When my first novel Belle of the Back Streets  was released in paperback I had a book launch in The Albion Inn in Ryhope, the pub which is central to the story of the book. There was a buffet, cakes, drinks, and lots and lots of people. My actress friend Corinne Kilvington and I read from the book and then Corinne interviewed me. The night was a huge success. It was standing room only in the pub. There are some amazing pictures of the night here. But I'm not going to do it again. Why not? Because it caused me endless anxiety afterwards, I'm no good with that sort of thing. And so when my second novel The Tuppenny Child   was released in paperback, it was muted kind of affair. It'll be the same for Pearl of Pit Lane although I am having a launch at Waterstones Sunderland on Saturday 7 March and again at National Glass Centre later that same...

Belle of the Book Launch

Image
Last night was one of the most amazing nights of my life and one I will never forget. It was the book launch for my debut novel Belle of the Back Streets .  The book is set in Ryhope, the northeast coal mining village I grew up in, in 1919 and follows the life of Meg, a young girl who takes on her dad's rag and bone round. The launch was held in The Albion Inn on Ryhope village green as the pub features in the book a lot. I'd booked a buffet for thirty people some time ago, and then spent weeks worrying that there'd be far too much food for the half dozen or so people who might turn up. And how many turned up in the end? Well, let's put it this way... there wasn't enough food to go around and although I know I bought 24 cakes, and I think I remember seeing them... they didn't hang around long and I missed out on eating one. But don't they look great? Not only did I underestimate how many people would turn up, I also didn't take enough b...
