Behind the scenes at an audio book recording

Today has been an incredible day and one I'll never forget. The recording of the audio book for my debut novel Belle of the Back Streets took place and I was invited in to sit and listen to some of the recording.  What an amazing experience it was.

Esteemed TV and stage actress Janine Birkett is the narrator of my book and I sat and listened in the studio to her read a couple of chapters. She was fantastic, really bringing the characters to life in a way I had never imagined. At one point I even had a tear in my eye, moved with the emotion of hearing my words read out in such a dramatic style.

I was also given a behind the scenes tour of the recording and editing process for which I'm very grateful indeed. It really has been the best of days.

The audio book of Belle of the Back Streets is released on December 15th by Soundings and is available on CD, MP3 and download. Find out more at Audible.

Here are Janine and I in the recording studio. I'm the one looking like a giddy kipper on the left in the white blouse and scarf.  You can find out more about actress Janine Birkett here at her website.

Belle of the Back Streets is out in hardback and ebook on November 1st, audio book on December 15 and in paperback on March 7 2019.  Find out more here.

Pre-publication praise for Belle of the Back Street

My publisher, Headline, has received some amazing words on my debut novel Belle of the Back Streets which I'm now allowed to share.

I have to admit, I shed a little tear when I saw the quotes from the authors.

The two quotes here are from best-selling, award-winning authors Margaret Kaine and Jenny Holmes.

Talking books and pit ponies at The Word, November 7th

Me with one of the Ryhope pony statues.
This one is the farm pony, being at the entrance to Ryhope village.
At the other end of Ryhope is a statue of the pit pony and I really must go and take that photo soon.

A date for your diary, if you'd like to come.

I'm going to be giving a talk at The Word in South Shields on Wednesday November 7th at 2pm.
Tickets are free but you do need to book in advance at https://theworduk.org/whats-on/an-audience-with-glenda-young/

I'll be talking about my debut novel Belle of the Back Streets which is released in hardback, audio and ebook on November 1st.

I'll also be talking about writing short stories for women's magazines and about the books I have written as TV tie-in books for ITV about Coronation Street.

Please come! I'm new to all of this, scared to bits and would really love to see a friendly face.

Behind The Scenes at a TV Soap

I've a short story in Take a Break's Fiction Feast this month and it's made the front cover too, I've tagged it with an arrow so you know which one was mine.

My story is called Darkwood Drive and it's about what goes on behind-the-scenes in a TV soap of the same name.

It's a fun story, with a murderous twist in the tale - and I do hope you enjoy reading it.

Comedy story and 100th episode of my weekly soap

I've a short story in this week's The People's Friend magazine. It's called Do You Wanna Dance? and it's a comedy story about a woman who does want to dance, but just can't seem to find the right partner. Is everyone out of step with her?

Also this week inside the magazine, it's the 100th episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside.
