My interview on Spark 107FM

Spark FM is the award-winning radio station produced and run by students at Sunderland University. As a (very) mature student alumni of Sunderland University, I was invited onto the show on Saturday 18 September to give some advice to freshers.

In a nutshell, I said to enjoy every minute and make the most of every opportunity that comes your way.

You can listen to my interview on Spark's website https://www.sparksunderland.com/listenagain/ where i should be on the first page of listen again. It may show up as 'Spark Daytime' 12pm. You can skim through the hour or listen to the whole thing - my interview is about halfway through.

Stotty, Sagas and Radio 4 - My Writing Week

It's been quite a week.

I was interviewed on BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour about my love of writing and my books. You can listen to the interview here and find out more.

Then my local paper The Sunderland Echo ran a feature on me and my books. You can read it here.

And then I very proudly revealed the cover to my novel number five, The Paper Mill Girl. You can see it in all its glory here.

Onward!  I might be under lockdown but I'm not keeping quiet. I've learned the hard way that if I don't blow my own trumpet no one else will.

It's hard work - very hard work - but I believe in my writing, my work and my books.

And now it's back to writing my current work in progress, the as-yet untitled novel six for Headline.

My interview on DH9 Community Radio

Radio is a huge part of my life, I love it. In fact, I'm listening to it more often these days than ever before. Politics, Brexit - every time any of this comes on TV, I switch it off and turn on the radio to listen to music instead.

Radio is also my favourite way of being interviewed too. I love it!

And it was with a happy heart that I accepted an invitation to be interviewed on DH9 Community Radio in Stanley this week.

The interview was with DJ Bryan F Irving. I met Bryan on an audio drama writing workshop at Sunderland University a couple of years ago. We had to work in pairs and I worked with Bryan on that workshop. We'd never met before but we worked well together, different backgrounds and writing genres coming together to create a smashing little piece of audio drama.

I was so inspired by the work we created on that day that I went home and wrote a very dark short story. The story turned out to be The Caller and it was shortlisted in a national competition and printed in an anthology. Find out more about it here.

Anyway, back to DH9 Community Radio. You can listen to my interview with DJ Bryan on Wednesday 4th December at 1pm and again on Sunday 8th December.  All details here.

There'll also be a competition to win a copy of Belle of the Back Streets and The Tuppenny Child.

Radio interview with Sun FM 103.4

I love radio.

I love listening to it - and out of all the interviews and publicity I do when a new paperback is released, it's the radio interviews I love doing the most.

This week I went into my local station Sun FM to chat to Simon and Lauren on their breakfast show about my second novel The Tuppenny Child which is out in paperback  now. The story is set in Sunderland in 1919.

The interview is now online and if you'd like to listen to it, it's here.

And if you'd like to read a blog post about my love for all things radio and wireless, it's here!

Friday Fun - BBC Radio Newcastle interview

I'm on the wireless!  Yup, I've been interviewed on BBC Radio Newcastle every day this week as their My Tunes guest, which has been a real treat.

I was there to talk about my life in writing - my upcoming three novels, writing short stories for women's magazines, writing the first ever soap opera in the history of The People's Friend magazine, writing short stories for (and winning) competitions and a talk I gave this week as part of Sunderland Creative Writing Festival.

And every day I got to pick a tune. Today I picked a song that fires me up for the weekend and I chose 'Roam' by the B52s.

You can listen to the interview if you'd like to. It starts at 49 minutes here.

If you'd like to listen to the first part of my interview this week, see below:

Day 1: Monday Motivation, Monday 26 March 2018.

Day 2: Tuesday Memory: Tuesday 27 March 2018.

Day 4: Thursday Dedication: Thursday 29 March 2018
