Sunderland's best selling local author

Today I was invited into my local branch of Waterstones book shop in The Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland. I was there, not for a book signing this time, as book signings are a casualty of the coronavirus pandemic this year and none are taking place.

Instead, I went into sign books for the shelves.

Books? Check. Pen? Check. Hand sanitiser? Mask? Check and check.  All books signed, all done and dusted and I was on my way out of the shop when I saw the last two books on a table directly in front of the bookshop door, it's the first thing customers see on their way into the shop.

On it, the lovely staff at Waterstones had printed 'Sunderland's best selling local author' and I had to take a a photo, of course!  As I was doing so, a lady came up to me to ask me about the book. We had a socially distanced chat through masks (!) and she bought a book which I happily signed for her.

Oh, and I'm in the window next to Barack Obama. Not bad for a lass from a pit village.

Pearl of Pit Lane, Waterstones book signing

Waterstones' website now have details of a book signing I'm doing at the Sunderland store.

It's on Wednesday 11 December 2019 from 6pm to 8pm as part of their Christmas shopping night. There'll be mince pies and a glass of fiz!

I'll be signing hardback copies of my third novel, Pearl of Pit Lane.
It's set in the coalmining village of Ryhope, Sunderland in 1919 and is another rollercoaster ride of a family saga.

About Pearl of Pit Lane:
When her mother dies in childbirth, Pearl Edwards is left in the care of her aunt, Annie Grafton. Annie loves Pearl like her own daughter but it isn’t easy to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Annie knows the best way to supplement their meagre income is to walk the pit lane at night, looking for men willing to pay for her company. As Pearl grows older she is unable to remain ignorant of Annie’s profession, despite her aunt’s attempts to shield her. But when Pearl finds herself unexpectedly without work and their landlord raises the rent, it becomes clear they have few choices left and Annie is forced to ask Pearl the unthinkable. Rather than submit to life on the pit lane, Pearl runs away. She has nothing and nowhere to go, but Pearl is determined to survive on her own terms.
If you come along, it'd be great to say hello and to meet you.

All details here.

How to make a middle-aged woman happy

Look what's arrived today at Waterstones Book Shop!

It's the hardback version of my second novel
THE TUPPENNY CHILD, set in Sunderland 1919 and it's in the window too alongside my first novel, BELLE OF THE BACK STREETS. That one's out in paperback now and what a cracking read it is.

Want to see a middle-aged woman living her dream? Here I am in Waterstones today...

And here's my two amazing books - each with feisty heroines and a rollercoaster of a story to each one.
