A shore thing

Flooding from the recent storms are washing up all sorts onto our beach.

Lots of plastic toys are coming ashore.

And this, from the Weardale Railway in Stanhope, County Durham. It must have floated down the river Wear and out into open sea.

You can see more of my beach finds at flickr.

Corrie weekly update - Teflon totty and 40 years of lifts

I've been writing Coronation Street weekly updates since 1995 and this week's Coronation Street update has just gone live here.

This week on Corrie, Carla lost her spleen and Phelan lost his chips.

The power of words

I don't think I could have asked for a more positive book review.  Just in on Amazon:

"I absolutely loved this book! In fact I originally borrowed it from the library, but enjoyed it so much I have now bought it. I actually remember the older events as I was brought up on it. My Mum has watched from day one. Although I haven't watched the programme recently this book has interested me enough to make me want to watch again. The photos are great. I loved it!"

Washed up

To the beach, to make the most of the sunshine after weeks of rain.  Finding lots of weird and wonderful things washed ashore from the storms and the floods.  Finds include these plastic sea creatures, which I've picked over at odd times over the last month or so.

Have also found a bottle from Tuckers Brewery in Gateshead, which closed down in 1972.  Have a look at all the weird and wonderful things that have been washing up outside our front door.

Photos on flickr.

David Bowie and me

David Bowie has died.  I have long dreaded this day and now it's here I am numb.

Since I first started listening to music from the radio, aged around 11 or so, and really enjoying what I was hearing, the bands, the singers, the DJs, it was Bowie who caught my ear, caught my soul.

I am lost.
