The Miner's Lass - the Book Blogger reviews

This week The Miner's Lass went out on a blog tour.

What's a blog tour?

It's when the publisher sends out copies of the book to serious book bloggers and each blogger takes a turn to review the book.

The reviews are all in and here they all are with some of my favourite quotes highlighted below. Click on the link to each blog review to read it in full.

Thank you all at Headline and all of the book bloggers for reading the book and posting their incredible reviews. It means the world to me.

"I loved this book. Fantastic storyline, fantastic characters. Loved the writing style, it all flowed really well and I was left wanting more when the book ended. Highly recommended".

"The Miner’s Lass is superbly written. She certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a story."

"Have devoured this, this week and what a book of twists, trials and tribulations! Absolutely fantastic read, highly recommended. Perfect for saga lovers. Historical fiction lovers too! Escape this winter into a world of miners cottages."

"If you’re thinking you don’t read sagas, then think again; you’ve not read Glenda Young’s sagas!"

"The Miner’s Lass continues to cement Glenda Young’s standing as one of the genre’s most talented writers."

"o, we’re six stories deep into Glenda Young’s Ryhope saga novels, but rest assured, things are far from getting boring... that scene with the bath tub will live rent-free in my mind for a while!'"

Glenda Young has once again blown pre-conceived assumptions out of our minds like a gale swirling around the pier of Hendon Beach - review of The Paper Mill Girl

This week, my new novel The Paper Mill Girl is on a "blog tour" where book bloggers receive the book from Headline in exchange for honest reviews on their own blogs.

Day 6 - the final day - of the blog tour was at Clyde's Corner where she leaves an amazing, detailed review about the book.

I particularly love the way this blogger knows where I'm coming from with sagas in that I never follow prescribed rules for the genre, but invent my own as I go along.

She says this about the book: "... as with its equally exciting predecessors, Glenda Young has once again blown all of those pre-conceived assumptions out of our minds like a gale swirling around the pier of Hendon Beach with her latest novel ‘The Paper Mill Girl’, and its fiercely independent heroine Ruth Hardy.

Characters that are so well developed. The book is superbly written - reviews for The Paper Mill Girl

This week, my new novel The Paper Mill Girl is on a "blog tour" where book bloggers receive the book from Headline in exchange for honest reviews on their own blogs.

Day 4 of the blog tour was from Bookie Tracey on Instagram where she has written a wonderful review which includes:

"... once again it was a great book. I loved the main character in this book. The author always writes characters that are so well developed. The book is superbly written. I love the setting as it’s close to where I grew up. This book is emotional and so easy to read."

Heart-warming, emotional and simply wonderful - reviews for The Paper Mill Girl

This week, my new novel The Paper Mill Girl is on a "blog tour" where book bloggers receive the book from Headline in exchange for honest reviews on their own blogs.

Day 2 of the blog tour was at Michelle Ryles' blog The Book Magnet where she has written an amazing review which includes: "I'm not ashamed to say that I shed a tear or twoI was positively beaming towards the end of the book and tears of happiness brimmed in my eyes but I quickly blinked them away so I could keep reading as I didn't want to miss a single word.

I always look forward to reading the author's note in Glenda Young's books as her research is outstanding and adds authenticity to the story.  I actually didn't realise that Sunderland had a paper mill and even though I've had a book in my hand for most of my life, I had never considered the composition of paper.  It was really interesting to get a glimpse inside a working mill in 1919 through Glenda's fantastic storytelling.

The Paper Mill Girl is heart-warming, emotional and simply wonderful.  It's perfect escapism and I really can't recommend it highly enough as I absolutely loved it.  If you think family sagas aren't for you, you've never read Glenda Young's books - pick one up today and you'll be converted."

The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon - Read all the Blog Tour reviews

My new novel The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon has been on a blog tour this week and you can read the wonderful reviews of the book as follows:

MONDAY 28 SEPTEMBER - GINGER BOOK GEEK

I was drawn to ‘The Girl With The Scarlet Ribbon’ by two words- Glenda Young.  That was enough for me.  I knew that any book written by her would be a brilliant, emotional and unputdownable read.  I wasn’t wrong either.  I read this book in one long reading binge because I couldn’t bear to be parted from the book for any length of time, for fear of missing something.

‘The Girl With The Scarlet Ribbon’ is superbly written but then I think that to be true of all of Glenda’s books that I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing.  She writes emotional stories that really do get under your skin and you begin to feel every emotion that the characters are going through.  Glenda draws you into the story from the very start and then takes you on one heck of an emotional rollercoaster ride.  She describes her characters so well that they seem to jump off the page and spring to life.  In fact they seem just as real as you and I.  I found ‘The Girl With The Scarlet Ribbon’ to be a gripping read, which had me on the edge of my seat throughout.  I have read that people compare Glenda Young to Catherine Cookson but I think that Glenda’s books are actually better than Catherine Cookson’s books.

In short, I thoroughly enjoyed every single second of ‘The Girl With The Scarlet Ribbon’ and I strongly recommend that you read this book.  I will definitely be reading more of Glenda’s work in the future.  The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

TUESDAY 29 SEPTEMBER - THE BOOK MAGNET

I've only recently discovered local Sunderland author Glenda Young and what a fabulous discovery she is. The main character of Jess is such an outstanding character. Although very character driven, and what wonderful characters they are, the writing is so vivid that I felt as if I was walking through Ryhope village myself.  I certainly felt like I was on the beach in one particular scene with Glenda Young's evocative writing giving me goosebumps.  I love the little elements of Sunderland history that Glenda includes in her impeccably well researched novel, namely Sunderland's famous Vaux beer and the heartbreaking Victoria Hall disaster.

Glenda Young is an extraordinarily talented storyteller and The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon is a wonderful story from beginning to end; it's more heartwarming than a roaring coal fire.  Superbly written, the storyline is compelling and surprising with characters that are so vivid they virtually leap out from the page.  I absolutely loved it and wholeheartedly recommend it.

WEDNESDAY 30 SEPTEMBER

Chells and Books (still to come)

THURSDAY 1 OCTOBER - CLYDE'S CORNER

Having read quite a lot of saga novels, I really thought I had this plot worked out, but Glenda Young just kept throwing curve-ball after curve-ball, which left me totally unable to put this book down. It also feels important to point out that, even if she had played it safe and kept to a pretty ‘standard’ saga plot with typical twists and a predictable ending, this author’s wonderful storytelling ability would still nonetheless have had readers gripped.

Glenda Young is evidently not putting her feet up and settling into an easy routine of churning out novel after novel which follows the same standard formula. ‘The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon’ is proof that she can write well outside the box and put unexpected, fresh twists on what can often be a ‘safe’ and ‘samey’ genre. I, for one, am fastening my seatbelt now, in eager anticipation of whatever exciting and unpredictable ride she’s planning to take her readership on next.

Read it all at Clyde's Corner

FRIDAY 2 OCTOBER - BOOKISH JOTTINGS

Glenda Young continues to cement her standing as one of the most gifted writers of historical sagas writing today. When readers pick up a saga by Glenda Young, they know that they are in the hands of an outstanding storyteller and in The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon, she has penned a dramatic, emotional, gritty and wonderfully evocative read tale that will hold readers spellbound from start to finish. A tale of courage, fortitude and resilience, The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon is rich in pathos, period detail and emotional intensity and will have readers eagerly turning the pages as they find themselves completely swept away by Jess’s story. In Jess, Glenda Young has created a wonderful heroine. She’s strong, spirited and irrepressible and somebody who, despite all of the obstacles standing in her way, remains constant and true to herself. A top-notch saga from this fast rising star, The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon is another compulsively readable novel by the immensely talented Glenda Young.

Read it all at Bookish Jottings

SATURDAY 3 OCTOBER - BOOKIE TRACY
"The writing in this book is fantastic and makes you feel like you are walking the streets of Ryhope alongside the characters. This book was once again heartwarming and a complete page turning.
A fantastic storyline alongside brilliant writing makes this a must read book.

Day 4 of the tour takes Pearl to Bookish Jottings where there's a long interview with me all about my writing, my love of soaps and writing historical novels.

There's also a smashing review of  Pearl of Pit Lane which includes these glowing words:

Glenda Young is a master storyteller and Pearl of Pit Lane is a gritty, gutsy and gripping saga which has at its heart a determined, resilient and resourceful heroine readers cannot help but admire. Pearl is a wonderful character it is impossible not to care for. She is intelligent, courageous and never loses hope even when everything seems to be against her. A bold, brave and brilliant heroine readers will root for, Pearl is a character that is sure to linger in the heart and mind long after the last page is turned.

An exquisitely written saga from a writer with a very bright future ahead of her, Glenda Young’s Pearl of Pit Lane is storytelling at its finest.

Pearl of the Blog Tour - Day 1 - Clyde's Corner

My new gritty saga set in 1919, Pearl of Pit Lane, is on a blog tour this week.

What's a blog tour?

Well, it's a chance for book bloggers to receive an advance copy of the book from the publisher and review it with full backing from the author (me) and the publisher (Headline).

Day 1 of the tour takes Pearl to Clyde's Corner book blog where she is given such a glowing review that it's really cheered me up. No mean feat with everything that's going on in the world today.

I love Esther's review on Clyde's Corner especially when she says this:

"The only thing I feel Glenda has left her readers without is a spin-off novel in which all of her formidable female leads join together to overcome some huge adversity, because that would be absolutely epic; like ‘The Avengers’, only actually enjoyable and inspiring"

You can read the full review here.

Pearl of Pit Lane's full blog tour this week will be as follows. And she's only 99p for ebook at Amazon until the end of this month. Buy it here.

Blog Tour announced for Belle of the Back Streets

I'm delighted to announce that my debut novel Belle of the Back Streets is going on a 'blog tour' beginning Monday 4th March.  The novel is released in paperback on Thursday 7th March and you can order it here if you'd like to.

Blog tours are a new thing for me. I'd never heard of them until a few months ago, but they sound a great idea for book bloggers to review books and share them online.  Hopefully, the book bloggers on the tour will enjoy Belle of the Back Streets - but I have to admit, I'm a little bit nervous of reading their reviews.

So far, Belle has received 65 x 5* reviews on Amazon and over 270 ratings on Goodreads, mainly 5* and 4*.  There are a few 3* reviews there, even 1* too.  It doesn't upset me to get a 'bad' review of one star, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it does make me curious. I want to know exactly why the reviewer didn't like it, I'm truly interested to find out and if anything I learn can help to make future books even stronger.

Debut novel Belle of the Back Streets

Now out in hardback, audiobook and e-book
