The End, The Sun - my Christmas writing week

As it's Twixmas and sale season, my books are all just £5.99 plus postage and I'll sign them for you. Order now, here.

This week I reached a writing milestone and typed the sweetest two words an author can write. This is the end of the first draft of the second in the Toffee Factory Girls trilogy of books. Now for the hard work of editing!
During Christmas week, it's been a joy to see my books received as presents. A real tonic!

My new cosy crime Foul Play at the Seaview Hotel was featured in The Sun's Fabulous magazine on Christmas Eve 2023. There's a competition to win 1 of 10 copies too! Enter here.

I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing Riverside weekly since 2016 and you can find out all about it here.

I also kept the Coronation Street Blog ticking over with news and editing the team of 16 bloggers.

My final author events of the year - my writing week

This week I've been making strong progress in writing the second of the trilogy in the Toffee Factory Girls series.  I aim to finish the first draft by January and then the difficult process of editing begins.

Along with Sunderland University student Grace-Mae, I was featured by Sunderland University in a story about the creative writing award I've sponsored this year. You can read the full article here.

Also this week I carried out the last of my author engagements for 2023. And what a wonderful way to finish! I was at Featherbed Books in Houghton-le-Spring. They're an indie bookshop, family run, with lots of heart and great books.

Scarborough TV News came last weekend to my book launch for Foul Play at the Seaview Hotel. They recorded a very short interview with me speaking to Colin Powell and his son. Colin is the Manager at the Central Tramway in Scarborough, which features in a pivotal scene in my book.

You can watch the full video here (it's only 2 minutes long)

News of the book launch made its way to The Sheffield Star and The Scarborough News.

I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing Riverside weekly since 2016 and you can find out all about it here.

Tea with the Mayor, Fun in the funicular - my writing week

This has been a whopper of a week.

First off I went to Scarborough for the book launch of my new cosy crime set there, Foul Play at the Seaview Hotel.

I called into Scarborough Waterstones to sign a mountain of books, which was wonderful!

My book was prominently on display in their window too.

Here I am in the shop with my books.

And there's the very book in question! Got your copy yet?

Whilst in Scarborough I was invited to have tea with the Mayor Scarborough. I mean... how good is that? What a smashing bloke he was and he even posted this on his Facebook page.

Then came the official book launch, held at the Central Tramway funicular in Scarborough. It poured down all day but that didn't deter Scarborough cosy crime fans and we sold a lot of books.

Here are the books on display at the funicular.

And here I am at the funicular station!

The following day I was invited into Mrs Lofthouse's Book Emporium in Scarborough for a book signing of, gulp, 100 of my books!

Oh, and then Scarborough Waterstones posted this picture including my book, of their bestsellers this week.  I am over the moon.

Back home from Scarborough, I did a book signing at Sunderland Waterstones as part of their Christmas shopping nights.

And I've also been busy with events this week too.  I attended Sunderland College's first ever Christmas Fayre where I was selling my books and signing them for people.

I gave a talk at the gorgeous 17nineteen in Sunderland about writing historical fiction in old Ryhope.

Tomorrow (Saturday 16th December) I'll be at Featherbed Books in Houghton le Spring from 12-1 so please come along, it's your last chance to get a signed book.

I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing Riverside weekly since 2016 and you can find out all about it here.

Book launch, Bishop Auckland and the BBC - my writing week

This week starts with the big reveal that I've been keeping secret for ages!  There's to be more cosy crimes set in Scarborough and published by Headline. The next one will be called Deadly Dancing at the Seaview Hotel and is about amateur ballroom dancers.  You can read the full press release at The Bookseller website here.
Last weekend I was at The Mining Art Gallery in Bishop Auckland for a book signing of my novel The Miner's Lass. Lots of people turned up to say hello and it was a wonderful day.  Went for a coffee in the cafe in the town hall where there is a book case full of books on display and I was overjoyed to see Belle of the Back Streets there!

My books were included in The Sunderland Echo's list of Christmas presents to buy for the Mackem in your life!  See all the suggestions here.

Listen to me on BBC Radio York chatting about my Scarborough crazy golf cosy crime book launch for Foul Play at the Seaview Hotel this Saturday from 12-2 at Central Tramway funicular.

My novel was reviewed wonderfully in The Peterborough Telegraph.

And it was featured in a competition in That's Life Crime Scene magazine.

I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing Riverside weekly since 2016 and you can find out all about it here.
