Sea salt

Sometimes when you work from home, you forget to take a day off.  Today I took a day off.

Went to Saltburn by the Sea for a day of playing crazy golf, eating scampi and chips, ice-cream, walking on the beach and then playing another game of crazy golf.

There are more pictures from our day out, here.

And our review of the Saltburn crazy golf course here.

Reading and writing and tickling strange men

Just finished reading Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. It's a book I wouldn't have ordinarily touched, bought and read. Don't ask me why, it's just one of those books that were everywhere when it was first released and that put me right off. I'm odd that way.

But then I joined a book club. It's the first time I've ever belonged to a book club and so you read what the book club reads. The first book was dismal and no-one enjoyed it. Why it was on a book club reading list is beyond me. I even gave up reading it before I was half-way through.

Our second book was Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha.  I score it 12 out of 10 and highly recommend it. A stunner of a book.

My first published short story, ever

When I was little, my Grandparents lived just a few doors from our house. I was at Grandma's often, sometimes quietly sitting and reading in the kitchen with Grandad. He liked his westerns, I liked my Enid Blytons.

Grandma treated me like a grown-up. I didn't even get scolded the time I locked myself in her house and had to escape from the living room window. How and why this happened, I can't remember now.

Grandma used to read me stories from The People's Friend magazine. I'm proud to say my first ever published short story will be featured in the magazine this week, March 26 edition. That's a memorable date for me as it was Grandma's birthday.

I couldn't be happier.  Find out more about my work writing for women's magazines.

Magical Malaga

Before I visited Malaga for the first time, last week, I followed @GuideToMalaga on twitter for their helpful hints and tips about getting the most from a visit there. They were hugely helpful.

I've visited many Spanish cities in the past - Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Cadiz, Granada, Palma - and was keen to see how Malaga would compare.

And now I'm back from Malaga after a wonderful city break there, I've written a blog post for Guide to Malaga. It's all about my first impressions of this magical Spanish city.

You can read it here and I hope you like it.
