Front page news, BBC live radio... plus lots of lovely cakes - my writing week

This week my 8th saga novel The Sixpenny Orphan was released in paperback. It's quite a week for celebration so here we go with what's been going on.

The Sixpenny Orphan was given such a beautiful review by Esther Clyde at her blog Clyde's Corner, that I cried. You can read Esther's review here.

Then the book began its tour of bloggers and readers as follows:

The first review from The Book Magnet was fantastic, including the words: "The Sixpenny Orphan is such a heartwarming, heartbreaking, entertaining read that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I used to say I wasn't a saga reader but then I discovered Glenda Young's novels: this is not just a saga, this is a Glenda Young saga and it's simply wonderful."

On Saturday 6 May I did a book signing at Waterstones Sunderland of my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan. I was Queen for the Day in spite of stiff competition from the King's Coronation.

I gave a book talk about The Sixpenny Orphan at Featherbed Books in Houghton-le-Spring. We had cakes!

And there was an amazing book launch at Ryhope Community Centre for my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan. There were cakes!

I had a short story published in My Weekly magazine and even made the front cover next to Rylan and the Eurovision Song Contest!

I was interviewed live on BBC Radio Newcastle by DJ Gilly Hope about my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan.

I was on the front page of The Sunderland Echo with details of my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan and a competition for you to win signed copies of the book and a top prize of a Rington's Hamper too.  The competition is still active and you can enter here.

Plus, there's a competition on TripFiction website to win one of three copies of my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan. Enter here.

I was featured in the Love Sunderland Heritage Brochure, which is now available everywhere to pick up or view online. I'm giving a talk as part of the festival and will be at 17nineteen on Friday 2 June. All details here.

And now I'm off to Filey in Yorkshire for the Filey Literature Festival. On Saturday 13 May I'll be at the Evron Centre for the book fair, selling my books from 10-2.30. And on Sunday 14 May I'll be giving a talk in the Evron Centre at 4pm about my Scarborough cosy crimes. It's a free event, all welcome.

I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing Riverside weekly since 2016 and you can find out all about it here.

I also kept the Coronation Street Blog ticking over with news and editing the team of 16 bloggers.

See you next week!
