Pride of place and in the news - my writing week

This week has been about publicity for my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan.   I'm delighted to announce that sales have been strong and the book is currently at number 53 in the UK bestselling books chart.  If it cracks the top 50 next week I'm treating myself to a bottle of champagne!  Keep your fingers crossed for me.
I was given a sterling review in the Lancashire Evening Post who crowned me "one of today’s most exciting new saga writers".  Read it all here.  The review also appeared in the Peterborough Telegraph and the Blackpool Gazette.

The book continued its "blog tour" with amazing reviews coming in from book fans and bloggers. These included Karen's Book Bag - read her review here.

Blogger Ginger Book Geek (Amanda Oughton) said the book was "historical fiction at its best" - read her review here.

Blogger Julie from Bookish Jottings said "Master storyteller Glenda Young never disappoints and with The Sixpenny Orphan she has written another first-rate saga that will tug at the heartstrings, move her readers to tears and keep them reading way past their bedtime." - read her review here

Scarborough library has been closed for a long time while refurbishments took place. On the grand opening day this week, this picture below was sent to me, showing my novel The Girl with the Scarlet Ribbon in pride of place. The pic was sent to me by Lel Melayel, who is Chair of Scarborough Writers.

Eagle-eyed readers might have spotted that there was no 'writing week' blog post last week. This is because I was on holiday. So here's a couple of photographs from my time spent at Filey Book Fair and Literature Festival.  Photos are courtesy of the Book Nook bookshop in Bridlington.

I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing Riverside weekly since 2016 and you can find out all about it here.

I also kept the Coronation Street Blog ticking over with news and editing the team of 16 bloggers.

See you next week!

Front page news, BBC live radio... plus lots of lovely cakes - my writing week

This week my 8th saga novel The Sixpenny Orphan was released in paperback. It's quite a week for celebration so here we go with what's been going on.

The Sixpenny Orphan was given such a beautiful review by Esther Clyde at her blog Clyde's Corner, that I cried. You can read Esther's review here.

Then the book began its tour of bloggers and readers as follows:

The first review from The Book Magnet was fantastic, including the words: "The Sixpenny Orphan is such a heartwarming, heartbreaking, entertaining read that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I used to say I wasn't a saga reader but then I discovered Glenda Young's novels: this is not just a saga, this is a Glenda Young saga and it's simply wonderful."

On Saturday 6 May I did a book signing at Waterstones Sunderland of my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan. I was Queen for the Day in spite of stiff competition from the King's Coronation.

I gave a book talk about The Sixpenny Orphan at Featherbed Books in Houghton-le-Spring. We had cakes!

And there was an amazing book launch at Ryhope Community Centre for my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan. There were cakes!

I had a short story published in My Weekly magazine and even made the front cover next to Rylan and the Eurovision Song Contest!

I was interviewed live on BBC Radio Newcastle by DJ Gilly Hope about my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan.

I was on the front page of The Sunderland Echo with details of my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan and a competition for you to win signed copies of the book and a top prize of a Rington's Hamper too.  The competition is still active and you can enter here.

Plus, there's a competition on TripFiction website to win one of three copies of my new novel The Sixpenny Orphan. Enter here.

I was featured in the Love Sunderland Heritage Brochure, which is now available everywhere to pick up or view online. I'm giving a talk as part of the festival and will be at 17nineteen on Friday 2 June. All details here.

And now I'm off to Filey in Yorkshire for the Filey Literature Festival. On Saturday 13 May I'll be at the Evron Centre for the book fair, selling my books from 10-2.30. And on Sunday 14 May I'll be giving a talk in the Evron Centre at 4pm about my Scarborough cosy crimes. It's a free event, all welcome.

I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing Riverside weekly since 2016 and you can find out all about it here.

I also kept the Coronation Street Blog ticking over with news and editing the team of 16 bloggers.

Meeting and greeting during May, Local History Month - my writing week

May is Local History Month and I started my events at WHEATLEY HILL HERITAGE CENTRE and chatted to some amazing people. If you haven't been to the heritage centre before, please go, it's amazing.

It was an honour to be included in Headline Publishing's Highlights July to December 23 with my Scarborough crazy golf cosy crime Foul Play at the Seaview Hotel published later this year, see http://bit.ly/FoulPlayAtTheSeaviewHotel

I am over the moon to have The Sixpenny Orphan featured in this month's Sunderland Antiquarian Society newsletter, which has arrived in the homes of thousands of members today. If you'd like a copy of my new novel it's at http://bit.ly/TheSixpennyOrphan

I'm at Waterstones Sunderland from 12-2 on Saturday 6 May (yes, Coronation day... whoops! talk about a diary clash).  Please come and say hello.

The Sunderland Echo have a competition for you to win signed copies of my book and one lucky winner also wins a Rington's biscuit hamper. All details here.

Wrexham Carnival of Words was announced as a 'resounding success' as attention turns to next year. 'A cosier approach in the Agatha Christie tradition was provided by Glenda Young.'  I'm going to dine out on those words forever.  Read the article here.

I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera Riverside for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing Riverside weekly since 2016 and you can find out all about it here.
