I've always wanted to read "The Handmaid's Tale". I saw the movie years ago and thought it was an intriguing idea. So might give that one a go. What makes it your favourite ever book, Nora? Do tell...
At present I seem to have acquired an unfortunate habit of trying out new novels which turn out to be a load of old cobblers (in spite of all the fawning comments by the critics). A recent case was "The Time-Traveller's Wife" - arty-farty tosh and not even very exciting. And I recently started "On Beauty" by Zadie Smith and gave up on that before I even finished - a self-involved and irritating group of characters and not even very funny!
Personal favourite authors of mine are Armistead Maupin, Irvine Welsh, Meera Syall and Andrea Newman to name a few...quite a mixed bag really.
I love Patrick Hamilton - especially 'Hangover Square'.
Right that's it. Definitely something fishy. I love Handmaid's Tale. :)
If you enjoy Atwood, you may also like Margaret Laurence, Carol Shields, and Timothy Findlay..... All Canadian all great.
