As someone who began their first novel in February of this year and who is now 70,000 words through it... I say go for it. The sooner the better. Sometimes it is exhausting and troublesome but most of the time it's an exhilerating escape. My overriding thought since starting it has been "I wish I'd started doing this years ago... all that bloody time wasted...!"
Hi Flaming Nora, I just discovered your blog on Dolly Mix. My friend Natalie writes a column there. I popped over to your blog to check it out. Best wishes on the novel. Enjoy.
I will stop by again.
Blessings,
Ananda from Washington, DC
PS: I visited London in July and had a massively brilliant time. Since then, I have been working on my British vocabulary.... I will be back in your groovy town next year.... I loved it...

Clearly, you are not into instant gratification!
I have made no progress on the former but the latter is coming along nicely.
Ooooh how exciting! What's the book about, if I may ask?
