Busy doing nothing the whole day through - my writing week

Image
It's taken a while but I'm finally relaxing into my summer, doing nothing much. I'm reading a lot, enjoying time with family, listening to music and podcasts, the radio and watching TV.  So there's not much to report on my writing life this week except for some exciting news....  ...this is FANTASTIC! Shared by Eleonora Motta who is the translator of my Scarborough cosy crimes into Italian. Curtain Call at the Seaview Hotel in an actual Italian bookshop... in Italy!  Morrisons this week. HUGE names! BIG sellers! CELEBRITY novels!  But look whose books have sold out (again) bottom right.  I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera  Riverside  for The People's Friend magazine. I've been writing  Riverside  weekly since 2016 and you can  find out all about it here. I also kept the  Coronation Street Blog  ticking over with news and editing the team of 16 bloggers.  Sign up to receive my free, monthly email newslet...

The ITALIAN version of my Scarborough cosy crime Curtain Call at the Seaview Hotel, starring a troupe of am-dram actors, is out this week  with a stunning new cover. The Italian - and Spanish - versions of my Scarborough cosy crimes are being used by students of Languages for Fun in Whitby and Scarborough to help them learn a new language! All details here . In Spain, the first cosy crime Murder at the Seaview Hotel is now in the shops and has been reviewed thus: "As gripping as Agatha Christie and as funny as Murder, She Wrote, Glenda Young's The Strange Case of the Murder at the Seaview Hotel is coming to bookshops to delight the most intrepid readers!" Read the full review here . I gave a talk this week at The Word in South Shields, all about my new book The Toffee Factory Girls . I really enjoyed it! Also this week a fan letter arrived from a reader who enjoyed The Toffee Factory Girls so much that she wrote to me and included a toffee recipe too. How wonderful. T...

Women, Brownies and talking in the SAFC Director's lounge - my writing week

Image
This week I gave a talk at Sunderland AFC Stadium of Light in the Director's Lounge, no less!  What an honour. It was part of their Coals to Goals project and I talked about my new book The Toffee Factory Girls . We had a raffle to win a free book and a box of chocolates and there were free toffees for all. It was a great day and I enjoyed it a lot. I also gave a talk to a local WI group, which was very enjoyable indeed. The Crack magazine listed my upcoming talk at The Word in South Shields. All are welcome and it's a talk about my book The Toffee Factory Girls. I enjoyed a wonderful day at Beamish Museum, where I research all of my novels. The museum officially opened Ryhope's Grand Cinema which is on site now after being moved from Ryhope, where my novels are set.  It was an emotional day, especially when Ryhope Brownies presented me with my Local History badge for helping them research old Ryhope some weeks ago. I crafted another episode of my weekly soap opera  Rive...

Image
This week my author newsletter for July went out to subscribers. It includes a new competition and a special 99p offer! Read it online at https://glendayoungbooks.com/so/0bO-IfPeD?languageTag=en My Scarborough cosy crimes are now available translated into Spanish and Italian. The Spanish version was listed as one of the must-read books for summer, in Revista magazine!  You can read the full article here. Also, the eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that there was no writing week post last week. This was because I was on holiday in the beautiful town of Llandudno in North Wales. While there I gave a talk at the Hydro Hotel for guests of Alfa Leisureplex, who sell my books in their hotels throughout the UK. It was a wonderful night. £1.50 from the sale of each book goes to Alfa's charity, Re-engage, to help combat loneliness in older people. Thank you so much to R eengage UK c harity for this wonderful interview in their Time Together Summer 2024 magazine! Read the whole magazine ...
