Who would have thought Nivea and good grammar would mix?
Does the fact that this bad ad I spotted on the Piccadilly Line the other week- and it's been bugging me ever since - mean I should a) get a life or b) just get over myself, girlfriend? Calm down, dear (as M Winner would say).
What gets me is the amount someone earned for this when thee and me could be doing it better for half the price.
My students made that 'of'mistake all the time - so I didn't notice at first.

All they needed to do was finish the ad with "innit" and I might have believed it was an ironic comment on the state of education in the West...
"Would of thought" .... aaaaaghhhh! That sort of thing bugs me even more than misplaced apostrophes!!
That is truly dreadful. That must surely be an attempt at irony or something. Who would of thought?

LOL You remind me of Niles Crane, who spent ages in the men's loo because he was correcting the grammar of the graffiti!!
(I hate slipshod grammar too, btw)
It's disgraceful. I use one of their products but when it runs out I won't be buying any more. I have no desire to be associated with a company with such a low regard for literacy.

Why is it common for people to mix up "of" and "have"?
They should of shot the signwriter.
kaz sent me here - I've heard it stated somewhere that the of/have thing is so common now that some pundits have accepted it as OK modern usage - it doesn't bug me as much as inaccurate apostrophising.
