Retro knitting patterns for sale

Image
I'm selling off my mum's and grandma's old knitting patterns. If you'd like to buy any of them, they're just 99p each plus postage and I'm selling them on ebay here.

Shape shifting

Image
If, like me, you don't often wear a dress, then it's hard to know what suits and what will fit and look nice.  So all you do is go into a shop, pick something off the rail that looks pretty and is about the right size and then you try it on. And that's when you realise that dresses are made for teeny, tiny little women. Not women with long limbs. Not women without a waist. Not women with a bosom. Not women with hips. Not women like me.

Google Adsense and sensibility

Image
If you're a long time visitor to Flaming Nora, you'll have noticed the new layout and er, um, the ads. I hate them as much as you do, believe me. But I find myself in the rather unfortunate position of being in-between jobs (aka desperately seeking work) and therefore ads on the the blog provide a tiny little amount of money, without which I can't go out and boogie.  Hope you understand and I also hope it's a temporary blip and I can remove them soon.

Grayson Perry in Sunderland

Image
The last thing you expect when you go out for a big family meal to celebrate your birthday at the local eatery is for an international transvestite artist to come in and sit at the next table.  But last night, he did. Grayson Perry has been in Sunderland all week filming a documentary for Channel 4 about the city, there's even a facebook group all about his time here . The last entry on the facebook page from him says that "Sunderland has been fantastic". Let's just hope that the London-centric Channel 4's media production team will portray the city that way when we get on to screen.

The Coronation Street Blog and me

Image
Not so much of a blog post, more of a brain dump so excuse me if I prattle on but if this thought doesn't get out of my head it just might start making me, ooh, quite cross. You may know I run a Coronation Street fan website at the Coronation Street Blog .  It's popular, it's successful and it's a not for profit site. There are a few Google ads on there as I wondered if putting Google ads on a website made it go up the search ratings any and it seemed to do the trick and so the ads stayed.  There's a team of us Corrie fans working on the site, I'm the editor and it's 'my' blog if you like but I can't take the credit for making it as popular as it is. I just steer it and guide it and encourage Corrie fans to join in if they can write well and take the blog in a direction I like, as its founder and editor. It's irreverent, funny, sometimes scathing about the show we all love but we never disrespect Corrie and love the show to bits. But be...

Lovely life

Image
Having lunch with a friend last week, someone I haven't seen since I moved back up north, she said to me: "You don't Flaming Nora as much as you used to."  I know I don't, and here's why. I now have a life.

See also:  Personal Pebbles My collection of sea-glass is growing, slowly. Ok, it's growing very slowly and it's not as vibrant as I'd like just yet but that's because the beach where I live next to doesn't have a great deal of the stuff.  And when I do find sea-glass on the sands, it's mainly clear or blue and green pastel.  Not that blue and green pastel doesn't have a beauty of its own, it does. But there's a navy blue sea-glass in there that I adore and I'm still hoping and searching for a red or a pink.
