Judging, short story, community library & competition - my writing week

Image
This week I went to Darlington Library to announce the winners of a short story competition where I'd been one of three judges. It was part of the Crossing the Tees book festival and an honour to be involved. I had a short story published in P.S. Magazine inside The Sunday Post newspaper. It was a heart warming, fun story called Stick to the Plan. Also this week I donated large print paperback copies of The Toffee Factory Girls to three community libraries in #Sunderland 1. Fulwell Community Library 2. Kayll Road 3. Back on the Map , Hendon I was given another lovely mention in The Scarborough News about my talk at this year's Books by the Beach festival in the town. If you'd like a ticket, I'm sold out - but there is a waiting list. There's a competition to win a free copy of my new novel The Toffee Factory Girls, in Living North magazine. Enter here! I crafted another episode o f my weekly soap opera  Riverside  for The People's Friend magazine. I've bee...

Week 2 of my retreat in Scarborough - my writing week

Image
Last week and this week I've been in my happy place of Scarborough in Yorkshire, but I'm not here on holiday. I'm here to write and work. I'm writing book four in my Scarborough cosy crime series and making very good progress, with no distractions.  Whilst here, I'm walking each day and making the most of the scenery as inspiration for my scenes in the book.  While in Scarborough this week I was invited to The Cumberland Hotel by Alfa Travel to give a talk on my books, for charity Re-engage. This was a wonderful event and I even met a lady with the same name as me! I travelled in style on the Central Tramway Funicular where one of my books is set. Books are for sale at the top station of the funicular too! And although I'll be leaving Scarborough at the end of this week to travel home, I will take a piece of Scarborough with me. Treated myself to this wonderful coaster to place on my writing desk at home. __ Glenda Young Twitter: @Flaming_Nora Facebook: Gl...

This week (and next) I'm in my happy place of Scarborough in Yorkshire, but I'm not here on holiday. I'm here to write and work.  I'm writing book four in my Scarborough cosy crime series and making very good progress, with no distractions.  Whilst here, I'm walking each day and making the most of the scenery as inspiration for my scenes in the book.  Speaking of scenes in the books, here's the bench that Helen Dexter sits on, when you imagine her fictional Seaview Hotel on the clifftop! I called into Scarborough library to drop off free bookmarks and postcards. While there, I picked up the festival brochure for the Books by the Beach this year in town. I'm speaking on Friday 7 June at 3pm, all welcome, but tickets must be booked in advance. One of my daily walks around Scarborough brought me to one of my favourite spots. And I was included in The Scarborough News article about the Books by the Beach festival too. The first professional review is in for The ...
