The joy of re-reading books

I've just finished re-reading and thoroughly enjoying, again, one of my favourite books. It was Margaret Atwood's Cat's Eye, a story of female friendship in its most nasty form. It's my first re-read of that particular book and I somehow find myself going back to re-read a couple of favourites every few years.

These have been Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Erin Pizzey's The Watershed, and my all time favourite book which I've read at least five times now. It's this one.

I'll be going shopping soon for a bag full of new novels to take on my jollies with me. Any recommendations?

I seldom re read but I missed this one so I'll give it a go.
I've been struggling for a book recently. But I quuite liked 'Post Birthday World' by Lionel Shriver.

Thanks Kaz. I've tried that one but gave up about half-way through, thought Lionel Shriver was nowhere near as good as The Kevin book with it. Shame really.

I've not been a fan of Margaret Atwood but i believe i did read Handmaiden's Tale. They made a movie of it some years ago, Natasha Richardson i think. Not great. Fay Dunaway was good in it though.

One of my favourite authors is Diana Gabaldon. She does historical romance with a time travel twist. Also like Marian Keyes for light reading but the latest one of hers i read had some quite grim stuff in it about alcoholism. This Charming Man it was called. It also had three different styles of writing from the perspective of three different characters, one of which was highly annoying but that's another matter. The story was good enough to keep me interested.

It's a bit heavy and unpleasant subject wise but "Ugly" by Constance Briscoe is my current read and it's a pretty rivetting. You really root for the main protagonist. You could try that one...

I 'loved' but was rather traumatised by Cat's Eye but I love almost all of Margaret Attwood's stuff. 'The Robber Bride' for me may just be the best one, I have re-read that several times.
We need to talk about Lionel Shriver. Although I do think Kevin was the best, another one maybe it's called, 'A Good Family' was also excellent. Topic not quite as hot as the Kev issues but the writing as good as.
